No KrisFlyer elite miles on Virgin Atlantic flights

I just received a communication from Singapore Airlines informing that starting 1 July 2016, KrisFlyer members will not be able to earn any KrisFlyer élite miles on Virgin Atlantic operated flights between the Americas and Europe. You are although eligible to earn KrisFlyer élite miles on the rest of Virgin Atlantic’s non-transatlantic flight network. Do note that KrisFlyer élite miles count towards your KrisFlyer status and are different from the redeemable miles accrued via travel and credit cards etc. I see this as a fallout from the Delta trying to exert more control over the lucrative trans-Atlantic sector run by Virgin in direct competition with British Airways. With the latest announcement of aligning of Delta and Virgin schedules between this route, this fallout was inevitable.…

Earn Singapore Airlines Krisflyer miles on Scoot and Tigerair flights

Singapore Airlines has been working hard in the last few months to bring its subsidiaries to become a part of the lucrative KrisFlyer program. Even though earlier this year in April, Singapore Airlines had made available redemption possibilities on these two carriers and also on its India partnership Vistara, but its low cost cousins were not part of the earning group. That is going to change now that Singapore Airlines will allow you to earn Krisflyer miles when you fly on Scoot and Tigerair. The catch here like all other programs is that they are only earned on premium bundles for their flights known as Scoot’s PlusPerks or Tigerair’s FlexiCombo bundles respectively. As per the airlines website- Scoot’s PlusPerks bundles give passengers benefits like ticket flexibility (the…

Singapore Airlines is running a promotion whereby every 50th person to join their KrisFlyer frequent flyer program and fly within 3 months of joining on Singapore Airlines or Silk Air will be awarded 10,000 miles until 31st August 2015. This promotion is celebrating the 50th birthday of Singapore and as nations flag carrier, Singapore Airlines has been running a host of events for this special occasion. I had blogged earlier about the Singapore Airlines A380 flagship plane decked up in Singapore colors that would be flying select routes this year. Airbus has been all gung ho about their A350 production plans. As of now it’s only their launch customer, Qatar Airways that flies the A350 and very soon Vietnam Airlines and TAM will be taking the delivery of its own. One Mile at a Time reviewed the A350 including the inaugural flight and you can read about it here and here. Today Airbus posted about the first A-350 XWB for Singapore Airlines that’s come onto the production line. Singapore Airlines is one of my favorite airlines and am really excited to see how this fabulous plane is going to turn up when they start flying it, with their unmatched service levels and the new generation technology it’s definitely going to be a great experience. Earn Club Vistara points on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights

Club Vistara (CV) is the frequent flyer miles program of the TATA-Singapore Airlines joint venture airline in India. The airline seems to be very aggressively rolling out tie-ups with its parent company and the subsidiaries, which is a clear sign of its intent to fly abroad soon. Vistara has won rave reviews about its quality of service although it is yet to get more traction in terms of market share as it still seems to be busy adding new routes although load factor seems to be an area of concern. Vistara has announced that from March 30, 2015, Club Vistara members would be able to earn Club Vistara points on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights. The number of points to be credited will be calculated…

Changi Rewards gets a makeover

My favorite airport, Changi Airport at Singapore has recently overhauled its rewards program to make it more rewarding and enhance the shopping experience out there. Starting this April every spend you accumulate at the airport until March 2015 will count towards your status and so reward you with benefits as shown in the table below. This is in addition to the 7% savings on the General Sales tax (GST) that you save. Not only does this bring the program in line with the other loyalty programs by allowing you to convert your points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer air miles or credit vouchers for online shopping portal and even at the outlets at Changi itself, which would prove as a good option for many travelers who…

Air India moves to Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the Delhi Singapore route

With an eye on the lucrative Australia transit traffic that plies on the Delhi-Singapore-Australia network, Air India has introduced the Boeing 787 on the Delhi-Singapore route. Air India is upgrading the service with the double-aisle Dreamliner and increasing passenger capacity compared to the single-aisle Airbus 319 now. The Dreamliner will carry 18 business class passengers and 238 economy class passengers besides much increased cargo and baggage carrying capacity. This capacity addition with the code share with Singapore Airlines is definitely going to bode well for the beleaguered airline. With the impending entry to Star Alliance, these moves by Air India is a clear indication that the airline is trying to align itself with its partner airlines and thereby make sure profitability on the routes that…
