No KrisFlyer elite miles on Virgin Atlantic flights

I just received a communication from Singapore Airlines informing that starting 1 July 2016, KrisFlyer members will not be able to earn any KrisFlyer élite miles on Virgin Atlantic operated flights between the Americas and Europe. You are although eligible to earn KrisFlyer élite miles on the rest of Virgin Atlantic’s non-transatlantic flight network. Do note that KrisFlyer élite miles count towards your KrisFlyer status and are different from the redeemable miles accrued via travel and credit cards etc. I see this as a fallout from the Delta trying to exert more control over the lucrative trans-Atlantic sector run by Virgin in direct competition with British Airways. With the latest announcement of aligning of Delta and Virgin schedules between this route, this fallout was inevitable.…

Virgin Atlantic eyeing to combine with BMI

As reported by Businessweek earlier, Virgin Atlantic CEO, Steve Ridgway said that the airline is actively looking to combine with bmi British Midland International, this news comes in the wake of bmi slot sale to British Airways and Lufthansa CEO Christoph Franz indicating that the ailing airline maybe on the block. Should this combine become a reality, it would provide Virgin Atlantic with a much needed domestic reach in the European markets which would help it feed its International operations which would be much a needed booster shot for the airline that is also reviewing its plans to look for potential investors after the 49% stake holder Singapore Airlines sending feelers in the market about its stake sale in Virgin Atlantic itself. In the past…

Virgin Atlantic working on developing low carbon fuel

Virgin Atlantic which has always been a pioneer in the alternative fuels usage and development efforts has announced that it is working to develop a new aviation fuel that will have half the carbon footprint of the fuels currently in use. The fuel which is being developed in partnership with LanzaTech represents a breakthrough in aviation fuel technology that will see waste gases from industrial steel production being captured, fermented and chemically converted using Swedish Biofuels technology for use as a jet fuel. The revolutionary fuel production process recycles waste gases that would otherwise be burnt into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. The airline has plans to start using the fuel on its flights from Delhi and Shanghai to London. There are tests that are…

British Airways caught up in an advert mess up

BA’s new campaign on which the carrier is estimated to have spent £20 million caused quite a flutter when it was unveiled via Facebook. Apparently in one shot in one of the shots of the 747 it was discovered that they had used their arch rival Virgin Atlantic’s plane. In the ad which talks about the company’s motto “To Fly, To Serve” the 1st of the 3 Boeings shown standing together is a Virgin Atlantic plane which was photoshopped with BA colors but they forgot to change its tail number G-VGAL which belongs to Virgin aircraft based out of Manchester. The mistake was corrected just in time before the release. No doubt the ad is awesome and is one of the finest efforts from the…
