Malaysia Airlines offering 50% off on redemptions
Malaysia Airlines is running a promo offering 50% off on redemptions made from 18th to February 22nd, 2016. The travel period for this redemption campaign is from February 20th to May 20th, 2016. The London route is served by the Airbus A380s that the airline has and is also the only remaining route of the airline to the European continent. The discount does seem like a nice one but if you factor in the 15% online redemption discount that the airline already provides on its online redemptions and the atrocious devaluation that it did recently, the actual savings are ok at best. The flight schedules of the flights on which these redemptions can be made are stated below:
For redemptions, members can log on to Enrich online at www.enrich.malaysiaairlines.com , contact Malaysia Airlines’ 24-hours Call Centre at 1 300 88 3000 or visit any of the nearest ticket offices to redeem the miles.
Conclusion:
I do not have enough miles with Malaysia to avail this offer. MH has been selling/retiring most of its 777s as they were very dated and most of the routes they were flying on were loss making. Under the new CEO, Christoph Mueller, the airline is focusing more on being a regional player to improve its profitability. Hence this is the only route left where the airline is still flying long haul. Malaysia does offer some nice revenue fares that are usually cheaper compared to competition to fill up their birds post the unfortunate turn of events since 2014. I would prefer to take those fares and credit them to their partners like American to make most of these fares. What are your thoughts on this? Will you be taking advantage of this offer to redeem any miles?
